Step into Christmas

News update

Jacky ScotlandWelcome from the Editor

For many who have been with the Business Banter since it started in August 2010 you will know that I published a regular blog highlighting the newbies and providing updates on some of the things the group were doing. I also created individual web pages for all those who came to the Business Banter and tried to keep these up to date as time permitted. However, as many recognised it became time consuming to keep the pages up to date so we've changed the site to make it more manageable.

I'll use this news update format as best as I can to replicate the blog but hope that everyone else can help contribute to the Business Banter directory as well. I've also added a special tab for Newbies and will keep that as up to date as possible along similar lines to the previous blog posts.

The new Business Banter directory

It's been a wee while coming but we've now finalised the next stage of the Business Banter website which allows you to tell everyone in the Business Banter community about yourself and your company and help us all find out about who does what.

Business Banter wall tabWith almost 600 businesses attending the Business Banter since late August last year we're hoping many of you will find a few minutes to register on the website, add your details and provide a practical business directory that will be of use beyond the weekly Business Banters.

Click on the Banter Wall tab to get going.

I realise that there are other social media tools where some of this information has already been stored and I don't want to have to ask for information to be duplicated. What I would say though is that the Business Banter community is a face to face one and not virtual, so hopefully what you enter here you'll be discussing about with others who have looked at your profile at the Business Banters themselves.

We're still working on some of the finer details but hopefully this will be useful to you as you build your business network.

Any questions or suggestions let me know.

If there are two or three people from the same organisation then maybe suggest that  the business details in the company profile field is changed for each of you giving a broader look at what the company offers.

Why?

By building the Business Banter directory I hope that it will encourage others to come along as newbies or maybe even to return after an extended absence to the Business Banter events and increase the opportunities we all have to grow our network and from that, our business.

Sponsorship

The pages being created also provide micro sponsorship and advertising opportunities and to ensure that the Business Banter has a sustainable future as a free event for everyone with opportunities to grow in different directions some income streams need to be developed. If you know of any company who may be interested in discussing how to take this forward let me know.

LinkedIn and Twitter

If you haven't already done so I'd be delighted to Linkin with you and for you to follow the Business Banter on Twitter and vice versa. If you're not sure if you have or have not then please click on the images below.

Big thanks

to the following for being guinea pigs while he were setting things up over the past week.

Business Banter website helpers

Alan Foster, Michelle Smith, Kenneth Kilpatrick, Clare McLeod, Margo McKinlay and Colin Abercrombie who pulled the whole website together for me.

Would just like to say that Michelle doesn't have a white sticking plaster at the side of her mouth, just one of the web snowflakes which was captured in the screen grab. ;-)

So hopefully you and your colleagues will take that few minutes to fill in the details and remember if any circumstances change in te workplace then you have the chance to keep the rest of us updated.

Some of the Special Offers open to Banterers this week include.....

Business Banter SantaAll I want for Christmas is....

Ach aye it's that time of the year again when thoughts turn to Crimbo presents.

How much cheer have you this year?

So the question this week is, if you have to buy a present for your best customer what would it be?

Using the 'Write a comment' box below, we'll give the most innovative present suggestion something special for themselves.

#sophistication review

The #sophisticated evening was a real eye opener for the wine connoisseurs and amateur bevvy merchants alike as Pieter took us on a journey of discovery through the vineyards of the world in pursuit of that sophisticated drink to enliven any party. At the end of the evening, Pieter gave his thoughts on what he would suggest we all look to buy over the coming festive period.

No animals or children were endangered by this event and we would thoroughly recommend Pieter for any occasion!! ;-)

For all the details and a look at the wines involved during the evening go to the #sophisticated page here

If you're one of the many Business Banter people who are working from home or don't have a permanent office desk and are looking for somewhere to work and meet people in Glasgow then you may be interested in our flexible hot desk solution in St Enoch Square. All the details are here and look forward to joining Clare, Colin and myself on a regular basis.

And with that I'll sign off and see you on Thursday

All the best Jacky

Our daughter's nursery are looking for a Santa - can I give them your name?! ;-) Seriously though - nice laid back, friendly but professional site. An accurate reflection of The Banter itself. Well done!
